Beaches in Sri Lanka


Over One thousand kilometers of palm fringed sandy pristine beaches encircle the Island. Sri Lanka is never out of season for a beach holiday. Bentota

Bentota is a coastal town which is approximately 65kilometers from the country’s commercial capital Colombo and 56 kilometers north of Galle. Bentota is located on the southern bank of the Bentota River mouth. Bentota has a beautiful wide sandy beach which is connected with the Bentota river. One of the finest stretches of beach on the west coast, running south from the magnificent Bentota lagoon and lined with a string of alluring hotels. Also a paradise of water sports.



Dehiwala & Mount Lavinia

Located in eleven kilometers south from Colombo along the road to Galle is the beach resort of Mt Lavinia. This beach is popular for bathing and clean sandy beaches. Around the Mount Lavinia area, there are lot of restaurants, shopping malls and pubs which have easy access to each beach hotels. A good spot to start your round tour.



Unawatuna

A pretty little horseshoe beach backed by one of Sri Lanka’s most enjoyable villages. Close to the colonial town of Galle. A sleepy peaceful cove with deep still water and a temple overlooking the bay from the protecting cliffs.



Negombo

Negombo is a major city in Sri Lanka, on the west coast of the island and the mouth of Negombo Lagoon. Negombo is approximately 20 minutes drive from the Colombo Air Port and approximately 35kilometers north of Colombo. Negombo is known as for its huge and fishing village and fishing industry. Nice sandy beach with lot hotels, guest houses, sea food restaurant and happening pubs make your stay more colorful. Good spot to start the round tour.



Arugam Bay

Is a bay which is located in the southeast coast of the Island and 320 kilometers due east of Colombo. Arugam Bay is a fishing village and one of the major hotspot for the best surfing and an easy going happy party atmosphere, with its wide sweeping beach in front of the village. This area also well known as a low budget travelers haunt.



Hikkaduwa

Hikkaduwa is a small town which is located in the southern coast. One of a top tourist destination in the country because of the beach. A long stretch of beach with plenty of hotels, restaurants and some nice bars, not forgetting the impromptu beach parties held on the beach.



Mirissa

Mirissa is a small town which is located in the south coast. It is approximately 240 kilometers from Colombo . Mirissia beach is one of top tourist destination in the world because of the beach and this is the best place to see world’s biggest creature “ Blue Whales” and Dolphins. Perhaps a contender for the most beautiful beach in the world. Long, deserted and hot. Snorkeling is also incredible in Mirissa sea area.



Pasikudah

Pasikuda beach, recognized as one of safest beaches in Sri Lanka is very famous among the travellers who travel around the Sri Lankan tourism areas. Known for its sun kissed beaches, one of the best seaside areas to visit when in the Eastern Coast is Pasikuda Beach. Located in the Batticaloa district and around 300 kms from the commercial capital Colombo. Pasikuda beach also famous among surfers.

Trincomalee

The Major city in the Eastern Province. Trincomalee harbour is one of a finest natural harbour in Asia. Dutch and British arrived to this place and they have described the beauty of this place. Now it is a famous beach.
